Copper Flower Workshop with Emily
A full day workshop crafting three little copper flowers, in a variety of ways, to sit in a little glass bottle. If there’s time, we will make a few little grasses and leaves out of wire too.
You’ll be introduced to piercing (sawing), filing, soldering, finishing and patination.
Lunch is not included; bring some with you! Materials, teas, coffees and biscuits are, however!
This workshop runs from 10am to 4pm and takes place at The Colour Factory in Winchester.

Grounding Objects Workshop with Emily
A new carving workshop - craft something out of wax and have it transformed into bronze.
We will start with a small block of blue wax and use an assortment of tools to transform it into a new form.
Similar to the ring carving, this is a workshop for you to create whatever it is you wish, whether it be a simple pebble/geometric shape, or something more three dimensional. You could craft something contemporary, something full of textures, or even a little character!
The workshop will be three hours; you can choose the afternoon or evening slot. The wax will be posted for casting and will take 2-3 weeks to be cast and finished.
Materials, teas, coffees and biscuits will all be included.
This workshop takes place at The Colour Factory in Winchester.
An additional bonus for this workshop is that with each booking, a % of the price will go towards funding workshops in the community for displaced folks and refugees.

Rosie Parmley’s classes offer a rich learning experience that build confidence within a vibrant art community. Her courses offer an opportunity to exhibit in the annual Summer Exhibition at The Colour Factory. She likes to share her skills through a range materials and sometimes less traditional resources too! Rosie references her own practice and that of a famous master painter in her courses eg from Matisse to the St Ives artists like Sandra Blow. Her classes teach a variety of skills from observational drawing studies, memory painting to abstraction. She frequently parallels the courses with current major exhibitions. In the warmer months her classes make the most of the fabulous garden at the studios and the local surroundings – en plein air eg Winchester Cathedral and the Hospital of St Cross. There are lots of demonstrations and one to one support/feedback in a small friendly class.

Ethical Jewellery Taster: Recycled Pendant Workshop with Emily
Join Emily during Winchester Green Week for a mini introduction to ethical jewellery, and give an unworn piece a brand new life.
This hands-on workshop begins with a conversation around sustainable jewellery: how to identify the pieces you already own, what to look for when buying jewellery, and how to thoughtfully repurpose items you no longer wear.
Please bring along a few pieces of jewellery to identify and work with during the session.
For the practical part of the workshop, you’ll melt down an old piece of jewellery and transform it into a beautifully simple pebble pendant - a little keepsake made from something you already own. If you have a chain you’d like to pair it with, feel free to bring it along. Silver chains will also be available to purchase if needed.
This workshop is suitable for reworking both silver and 9ct yellow gold pieces. I will also have scrap silver available for anyone who doesn’t have jewellery to repurpose.
The workshop runs from 6-8:30pm on Thursday 24th September; it’s £75pp.

Visible Mending: Patching & Darning with Samantha Boot

Learn a variety of fun and simple techniques to visibly mend and repair your clothes.
Join your tutor for a day of visibly mending clothes: from wovens to knits via jersey and denim.
You will learn how to patch clothes as well as understanding the types of fabrics and stitches to use. We will then explore ways to darn and embellish knits to bring them back into rotation in your wardrobe.
Suitable for all levels of experience (although some dexterity is required as we work entirely by hand), you will discover the satisfaction in mending your clothes and a new skillset you can use time and time again.
At the end of the day you will have started to tackle your mending pile and made a small collection of patches to use in future mends.
Students to bring a small selection from their mending pile eg, clean socks, knitwear, jersey (leggings/t-shirts etc), denim, trousers, skirts and dresses.
Needles, scissors, fabric for patches, and thread and wool in a variety of colours for darning, all provided. Tutor will also provide some swatches to practice techniques on.
Students may wish to bring a small embroidery hoop, darning egg or mushroom and basic sewing kit (a list with supplier suggestions is provided on booking).
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided throughout the day.

About Your Tutor:
Samantha Boot is a contemporary Artist Maker, working by hand with thread, cloth and words. She gained a BA (Hons) Textiles from the Surrey Institute of Art and Design, Farnham, UK (1997) and since returning to textiles in 2020, she was placed 3rd for Handwork at QuiltCon Phoenix, USA (2022), was awarded DYCP Funding from Arts Council England (2022) and has spoken about and exhibited her work both nationally and internationally, including as part of the Fine Art Textile Biennale 2025, Australia. She has work in private collections around the world and is a Juried Member of both SAQA.com and Design-Nation, UK.
Jewellery Club with Emily
It’s not a membership, nor a taught session. Consider it your workshop for an evening, with all of the equipment that you might need to complete an idea or project that you have planned. It comes with a built-in assistant/guide/professional jeweller (Emily!) to answer all of your questions, help discover the best methods to craft your piece, and generally make the most of your time in the space.
All of the equipment is available for you to use; materials won’t be included. If you need guidance on what to purchase prior to jewellery club, please get in touch at least two weeks in advance of the session.
These pay-as-you-go sessions cost £30 per person; you may book one at a time, or a few at once. Payments are to be made no later than two weeks before the session. Your payment secures your space.

Wood Engraving Workshop with Kate Dicker
With a small group, Kate will introduce participants to the exquisite world of this small scale, relief print medium. Using a practise block you will explore handling the tools: spitsticker, scorper and tint tool, all of which give multi-textured marks and delicate tones. Individual ideas will then be transferred to a block, 5.5cms x 5.5cms, engraved and printed (by hand burnishing) within the day.
Materials provided are:
Use of: wood engraving tools, oil-based printing ink, paper,
hand burnishers, tracing and carbon paper.
Please note: Wood engraving is an exacting medium. Participants will be expected to handle fine engraving tools on a small scale throughout the day and print by hand rubbing with a burnisher.
Ink will be cleaned with white spirit at the end of the day.

Drawing Beyond The Page: From 2D to 3D with Lorna McNeill
From 2D to 3D · Working with a Life Model · Inspired by the techniques of Auguste Rodin
Explore the human form through movement, drawing and sculpture as you take your drawings beyond the page and into 3D clay. Inspired by the expressive working methods of Auguste Rodin, we will explore how drawing can capture movement, energy and something of the essence of the figure, rather than simply recording what we see.
Working with a life model, we’ll begin with quick, expressive drawing exercises, including gestural and intuitive approaches inspired by Rodin’s approach. In the spirit of Rodin, we’ll then experiment with watercolour and expressive cut-outs before developing ideas into small clay sculptures.
The aim is not to produce one perfect drawing, but to follow your ideas and see what happens when you allow them to move naturally from one form into another. Through experimentation and play, you’ll be encouraged to develop greater freedom, curiosity and trust in your own creative process.
Beginners and experienced artists are welcome. No previous experience of sculpture is needed. Life model and all materials included. Please bring lunch.

About Lorna:
Drawing on her background in art, health, and psychology - and her experience creating immersive, light-filled sculptural installations and mixed-media works - Lorna offers a supportive space to experiment, observe, and translate the human form into dynamic, personal expression through embodied, expressive practise. Lorna studied fine art at Camberwell School of Art, Goldsmiths and The Art Academy. Introduction to Oils Six Week Course with Rachael Alexander
This six-week course is designed to introduce you to the world of oil painting, de-mystifying techniques, and providing you with the skills to continue your oil painting journey with confidence.
You will learn basic colour theory, warm and cool palettes, and how to mix a multitude of colours from just six, plus white.
Learn how to create an underpainting, some compositional techniques, and how to build up layers of tone, colour and texture. And discover how beautiful these paints are to use!
Small classes in a fun and relaxed environment, set in our beautiful beach garden classroom.

Hand-painted Napkins & Hammered Napkin Ring Workshop with Jenny & Emily
Join Jenny & Emily at The Colour Factory for a festive workshop making a pair of napkins and napkin rings!
For half of the workshop, you’ll be with Jenny, playing with mark-making and expressive brushstrokes to paint a pair of seasonal wreath cotton napkins.
For the other half of the workshop, you’ll be with Emily, learning to anneal, texture and finish two napkin rings in complimentary copper.
If you started the workshop painting in the pod with Jenny, you’ll go to join Emily in the jewellery room, moving metal. If you start with Emily, you’ll go to join Jenny!
This workshop will take place on Sunday 15th November, with the choice of 10am-1pm or 2-5pm, at The Colour Factory Studios in Winchester. Parking at the River Park Car Park is free on Sundays.

Wood Engraving Workshop with Kate Dicker
With a small group, Kate will introduce participants to the exquisite world of this small scale, relief print medium. Using a practise block you will explore handling the tools: spitsticker, scorper and tint tool, all of which give multi-textured marks and delicate tones. Individual ideas will then be transferred to a block, 5.5cms x 5.5cms, engraved and printed (by hand burnishing) within the day.
Materials provided are:
Use of: wood engraving tools, oil-based printing ink, paper,
hand burnishers, tracing and carbon paper.
Please note: Wood engraving is an exacting medium. Participants will be expected to handle fine engraving tools on a small scale throughout the day and print by hand rubbing with a burnisher.

From 2D to 3D · Working with a Life Model · Inspired by the techniques of Henri Matisse
Explore colour, movement, rhythm and expressive composition as you take your drawings beyond the canvas and into vibrant 3D relief compositions.
Inspired by the playful and adventurous approach of Henri Matisse, we will explore how colour can be used to create energy, movement and feeling. Working with a life model, we’ll begin with expressive drawing exercises exploring movement, rhythm and flowing line.
We’ll then move into colour, creating our own painted papers with inks and acrylics before cutting, arranging and reworking shapes into expressive compositions. Inspired by Matisse’s cut-outs, the process allows drawing to flow into colour, colour into shape, and shape into collage and three-dimensional relief form.
The aim is not to produce a particular kind of picture, but to follow the creative process and see where it takes you. Through experimentation and play, you’ll be encouraged to loosen up, discover new possibilities and develop a more intuitive and expressive way of working with colour.
Beginners and experienced artists are welcome. No previous experience of sculpture is needed. Life model and all materials included. Please bring lunch.

Copper Flower Workshop with Emily
A full day workshop crafting three little copper flowers, in a variety of ways, to sit in a little glass bottle. If there’s time, we will make a few little grasses and leaves out of wire too.
You’ll be introduced to piercing (sawing), filing, soldering, finishing and patination.

Rosie will share her passion for all things Bloomsbury and the legendary painters Vanessa Bell, Duncan Grant and Roger Fry.
This course kicks off with a welcoming coffee and croissants at the Cabinet Rooms in Winchesters own Bloomsbury Cafe. With an engaging presentation Rosie tells the story of the notorious group and their creative journey, setting an historical context. The class then moves over to The Colour Factory studios.
In this small and friendly class you will be immersed in all the drawing and painting materials and processes used by the Bloomsbury group.
You will be drawing and painting with:- pencils, chalks, charcoal, inks, intense ink blocks and acrylics. Closely looking at the groups paintings and their techniques, Rosie will lead you step by step creating a lovely study from a still life in their style. With one-to-one support and lots of demonstrations you will come away with a sketch book full of art and paintings to take home with you. Day four is a studio day for one to one support and working on a final painting/finishing off art work.
The course includes all materials, an A3 sketch book and refreshments. All you need to bring is your lunch daily. Suitable for all abilities.

Human Form: From 2D to 3D with Lorna Carmen McNeill
Explore the human form through movement, drawing and sculpture.
Join us for a one-day immersive workshop that brings the figure to life - from felt experience to expressive drawing, before translating this in to clay.
The day will start on paper, Lorna will talk you through using a variety of different art materials to capture the essence, form and movement of the model, who will alternate between movement and stillness in the space. Halfway through the day, you’ll move to the medium of clay, and Lorna will guide you through shaping the model’s form, providing you with all of the knowledge you need to get started on your 3D journey.
This workshop offers a nurturing, playful space for relaxation, creative exploration, and renewed inspiration. No experience needed - just an open mind and a willingness to play.
All materials will be provided. Please wear clothes you wouldn’t mind getting ink/charcoal/etc on. The model will be clothed. Please bring your own lunch; beverages will be provided. Please note, the sculptures will be made with a type of air dry clay and won’t be fired; you’ll be able to take these home with you on the day.

Introduction to Ethical Jewellery Workshop with Emily
A workshop introducing the concept of ethical jewellery; an opportunity to learn about the context and to learn how to make something new.
With the world the way that it is today, it’s no longer okay to just continue on our way and ignore the effect that current consumption (of everything) has on the world and the folks who live within it. Where the most capacity for big change is held by the big corporations, an individual - the entire population of individuals - has so much power just in where they spend their money. We have so many finite resources used at renewable rates, a huge waste problem, and so many people who are not responsible for the problem are left having to deal with the repercussions.
If you want to make a change, the trouble is often not knowing where to start.
So here we are, a start! Here is your introduction to Ethical Jewellery.
Jewellery is often considered one of the world’s oldest art forms; it’s had a long time to develop processes, understanding, materials but also, unfortunately, do a fair bit of damage. We’re lucky that there are some positive areas of the industry that have been running for a long time, but there are also some negative elements that have a considerable impact on the world. It’s important that we share the information, make some individual decisions and push for change!
The session will begin with an overview of what’s going on in the world in the context of jewellery (making and purchasing). You'll learn about the various origins of metal, gemstones and jewellery, and gain an assortment of knowledge on harmful jewellery practises and things to avoid. You’ll find out more about good jewellery initiatives and the people who are saving the (jewellery) world one little bit at a time!
Part two of the session will feature a little insight into the industry: how to identify what your jewellery is made from! This section requires that you bring your jewellery with you - whether it's something old and broken that you don't wear any more, or something that you're just curious about. Bring it along and learn what it's made from!
For the final part of the workshop, it is very important to separate what you want to keep from what you don't want any more, as the last section will see us melting some of your jewellery down and turning it into something new! Due to the nature of the workshop (its suitability for beginners and the introduction beforehand), there won’t be time to make anything complex, or forge out a ring. We shall be keeping the processes relatively simple - a bit of melting, a bit of shaping, a bit of soldering and the option to turn your little piece of metal into a pendant, earrings, or an embellishment for a simple silver ring.
If there is time, we can talk about what else you wish to do with it/with the remainder of metal. You could commission me to make something with the rest, or you could book in a workshop to make yourself something more complex!
***You will need to bring old jewellery with you. If you don't have any jewellery to melt, you're welcome to purchase some scrap from Emily to melt down, but you will need to let her know in advance.***

Minimalist Earrings Workshop with Emily
Join Emily at her workshop in Winchester, Hampshire to create at least two different pairs of stud earrings in silver; she will introduce you to a wide variety of techniques and equipment in a short period of time in order for you to take away two finished pieces.

Wood Engraving Workshop with Kate Dicker
With a small group, Kate will introduce participants to the exquisite world of this small scale, relief print medium. Using a practise block you will explore handling the tools: spitsticker, scorper and tint tool, all of which give multi-textured marks and delicate tones. Individual ideas will then be transferred to a block, 5.5cms x 5.5cms, engraved and printed (by hand burnishing) within the day.
Materials provided are:
Use of: wood engraving tools, oil-based printing ink, paper,
hand burnishers, tracing and carbon paper.
Please note: Wood engraving is an exacting medium. Participants will be expected to handle fine engraving tools on a small scale throughout the day and print by hand rubbing with a burnisher.
Ink will be cleaned with white spirit at the end of the day.

Trained at Camberwell College of the Arts and later completed a Masters Degree in Fine Art Printmaking at Winchester School of Art. Kate is an elected member of The Society of Wood Engravers and The Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers. Her wood engravings have an open style and have been used for publications and gallery exhibitions.
Copper Flower Workshop with Emily
A full day workshop crafting three little copper flowers, in a variety of ways, to sit in a little glass bottle. If there’s time, we will make a few little grasses and leaves out of wire too.
You’ll be introduced to piercing (sawing), filing, soldering, finishing and patination.
Lunch is not included; bring some with you! Materials, teas, coffees and biscuits are, however!
This workshop runs from 10am to 4pm and takes place at The Colour Factory in Winchester.

Rosie Parmley’s classes offer a rich learning experience that build confidence within a vibrant art community. Her courses offer an opportunity to exhibit in the annual Summer Exhibition at The Colour Factory. She likes to share her skills through a range materials and sometimes less traditional resources too! Rosie references her own practice and that of a famous master painter in her courses eg from Matisse to the St Ives artists like Sandra Blow. Her classes teach a variety of skills from observational drawing studies, memory painting to abstraction. She frequently parallels the courses with current major exhibitions. In the warmer months her classes make the most of the fabulous garden at the studios and the local surroundings – en plein air eg Winchester Cathedral and the Hospital of St Cross. There are lots of demonstrations and one to one support/feedback in a small friendly class.

It’s not a membership, nor a taught session. Consider it your workshop for an evening, with all of the equipment that you might need to complete an idea or project that you have planned. It comes with a built-in assistant/guide/professional jeweller (Emily!) to answer all of your questions, help discover the best methods to craft your piece, and generally make the most of your time in the space.
All of the equipment is available for you to use; materials won’t be included. If you need guidance on what to purchase prior to jewellery club, please get in touch at least two weeks in advance of the session.
These pay-as-you-go sessions cost £30 per person; you may book one at a time, or a few at once. Payments are to be made no later than two weeks before the session. Your payment secures your space.
Please let me know in advance of the session what piece/project/idea that you’re intending to work on so that I can make sure the relevant equipment is ready when you arrive.
This is a session for folks who have visited one or more workshops and wish to build on their skills; it isn’t a session for absolute beginners/folks with no experience.

'The Colour Factory Artists: The Everyday' Exhibition
We’re delighted to anounce that we shall be curating an exhibition of new work to showcase at the City Space in The Arc (Winchester) in the summer!
The exhibition runs from Thursday 4th June to Sunday 26th July, from 9:30am to 5pm each day except for Sundays. The work will be for sale, unless marked otherwise. It will take place at The Arc; you can find out more information on how to get there here. If you’d like to be reminded of the exhibition closer to the time, be sure to sign up to our newsletter. We will be releasing a calendar of dates that you can find us there, closer to the time, but if you wish to meet us there on another date, please do get in touch.

Copper Bowl Workshop Part Two with Emily
The beloved Copper Bowls are going to get a little sibling! Join this workshop to make a mini Copper Bowl from scratch!
In this workshop, you will be piercing, filing, annealing, forming and finishing.
Open to all, but ideal for those who have done the Copper Bowl Workshop before, wanted to make another but didn’t want to book onto the same session again. In this workshop, we’re going to make a smaller bowl, of which you’ll be cutting out first! This means you can get a little funky with the edges if you so wish, but if you don’t want to, you can still make a little round one.
This workshop will be three hours; you can choose the afternoon (2-5pm) or evening slot (6-9pm).
This workshop will take place at The Colour Factory in Winchester. All materials are included.

Human Form: From 2D to 3D with Lorna Carmen McNeill
Explore the human form through movement, drawing and sculpture.
Join us for a one-day immersive workshop that brings the figure to life - from felt experience to expressive drawing, before translating this in to clay.
The day will start on paper, Lorna will talk you through using a variety of different art materials to capture the essence, form and movement of the model, who will alternate between movement and stillness in the space. Halfway through the day, you’ll move to the medium of clay, and Lorna will guide you through shaping the model’s form, providing you with all of the knowledge you need to get started on your 3D journey.
This workshop offers a nurturing, playful space for relaxation, creative exploration, and renewed inspiration. No experience needed - just an open mind and a willingness to play.
All materials will be provided. Please wear clothes you wouldn’t mind getting ink/charcoal/etc on. The model will be clothed. Please bring your own lunch; beverages will be provided. Please note, the sculptures will be made with a type of air dry clay and won’t be fired; you’ll be able to take these home with you on the day.

About Lorna:
Drawing on her background in art, health, and psychology - and her experience creating immersive, light-filled sculptural installations and mixed-media works - Lorna offers a supportive space to experiment, observe, and translate the human form into dynamic, personal expression through embodied, expressive practise. Lorna studied fine art at Camberwell School of Art, Goldsmiths and The Art Academy. She is also a qualified teacher, who has taught in a variety of places including The Art Academy, New City College, the NHS and across the corporate world.
