‘The Colour Factory Artists: The Everyday’ Exhibition
We’re delighted to anounce that we shall be curating an exhibition of new work to showcase at the City Space in The Arc (Winchester) in the summer!
The Colour Factory Artists exhibition is a celebration of variety; of disciplines, processes and the lens through which each artist sees the world. Some view it in colour and emotion; some through the serenity of nature and the great outdoors. Some through the joy of life’s little treasures or the details of the objects that surround them; some in terms of the other beings walking this world. Each of these elements is captured in the artists’ own contemporary way; immersing fully in the creativity, taking as much joy in the mess, the problem solving and the very hands-on processes as they do in seeing the finished pieces.
Each piece is very different to the next, created away from the others, yet the pieces can sit together harmoniously as if they were designed to be together.
Much like The Scottish Colourists, the Colour Factory artists are a group working as individuals, falling under a bigger creative umbrella, supporting and encouraging each other. They are also a part of a centuries old legacy of art - learning from those who came before, finding their own way to capture and comment on what they notice in the everyday, and hoping to do the same for those who come next.
The Colour Factory has been written into Winchester’s creative history as an unwavering, unfinished chapter for the past 32 years. It is a not-for-profit organisation, of which each of the artists are directors and contribute to its day to day running. The artists each have their own studios where they work on their individual practice, alongside running workshops and courses, and working on bespoke pieces and community projects. The artists include Jenny Muncaster, Rachael Alexander, Rosie Parmley, Carol Wade and Emily Smith.
The exhibition runs from Thursday 4th June to Sunday 26th July, from 9:30am to 5pm each day except for Sundays. The work will be for sale, unless marked otherwise.
