Oil-painting on Monday evenings

My oil-painting class is based in the Colour Factory garden studio, tucked away behind the River Park Leisure Centre. We paint and draw from life – there is a simple still-life set-up for three weeks, a self-portrait session, and we have a seated model for two weeks. Classes are limited to eight, to enable more time for individual teaching.

I encourage people to slow down a bit, work big to small, find the big colour shapes. It’s a slightly abstract way or working. It’s how I paint. How high up is one lemon compared to the other lemon? What is the colour of that lemon compared to this lemon, or the colour of the table cloth, or the roll of kitchen paper?

People are at different levels so the class is less structured overall. There’s a short demonstration and I go around talking to people one to one. A lot of people who come along haven’t tried oil colour before, but some experience of drawing helps. You will learn a lot.

This course is on these Monday evenings, 6-9. February 25th, March 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th, April 8th.

The cost for six evening classes is £175. Missed classes can’t be made up. I’ll email people a list of art materials before the class begins. Tea and coffee are provided.
